The University of Chicago Folk Festival has convened since 1961! There will be two full days of workshops followed by evening performances. Come and earn techniques for playing your instruments more skillfully, meet some outstanding folk historians, and enjoy two concerts. Sing sea shanties, dance English country waltzes, jam on your recorder and a whole lot more.
Headliners: Liz Carroll and Laurence Nugent. Carroll is a Junior and Senior All-Ireland Fiddle Champion and the first American composer to win Ireland’s highest music, the prestigious Gradham Ceoil Cumadoir Award. Liz will be accompanied by All Ireland Champion Flute Player Nugent. Cajun trio T’Monde, featuring ancient French and Creole Ballads by guitarist Megan Brown, vocalist and fiddle player Kelli Jones and accordion virtuoso Drew Simon. Grammy Award winners Mike Feagan and the Fiddlegrass Band. Old time mountain musicians The Bucking Mules’ tribute to old ’78 records. Pianist Ethan Leinwand plays boogie-woogie and blues and R & B. Idey y Vuelta’s tribute to African, Mexican and Spanish music. Bluesmen and guitarists Oscar Wilson and Joel Patterson offer up blues, jazz, and rockabilly.
